AYSO Region 1200
Region 1200 began its first season in the fall of 1997 with approximately 400 players in divisions U8, U10, U12, and U14. In 1999 the U6 division was added. In 2001 the U16 division started. The 2005 season brought the start of our VIP division.
Prior to the start of Region 1200 kids wanting to play soccer went to Region 80 in Palm Springs. The original Region 1200 Board of Directors were previously volunteers in Region 80. We have always played our games at Nellie Coffman Middle School. However, our practice fields have been a couple different places. The first year we were at DeMuth Park sharing space with Region 80. The second year we were at the park in Thousand Palms. The following season we split time at the Thousand Palms park and Second Street Park in Cathedral City. Since then we have practiced at Nellie Coffman MS.
Our commissioner the first 3 years was Rick Sherwood, Gillian Cross then held the post for 4 years. Dennis Keat has been the RC for our 8th, 9th, and 10th seasons.
By 2005 we had grown to be larger than the region we split off from. Entering out 10th season in 2006 we had 1,214 players.
In September of 2006 ground was broken on the new soccer park on 30th Avenue. A special dedication ceremony was held jointly by the city and AYSO Region 1200 in June of 2007 to open the new park. After 10 years at Nellie Coffman Middle School we finally had our own place- the Cathedral City Soccer Park. Our player count for our 11th season, our first at the new park, 2007/08 was up to 1,324.
